Step One: Locaion, Location, Location

Planning where to have your wedding will tell you so many key details about your special day!

The location can also be the most expensive part of the entire budget.

When on a strict budget, it may be hard to find a place that feels special enough for the money you are willing to spend. Many places may come to mind, but I can assure that you will not be married at the Plaza Hotel on a $2000 budget.

My number one goal when seeking out a location was based on somewhere special. Personally, I thought a hotel was the most impersonal place to be wed of all. I wanted somewhere special, that we had been too or traveled too. Somewhere we had memories.

Luckily, many of these places host weddings and host them for little small fees, donations, or for free!
Places like this can include:
Parks
Beaches
Restaurants

When originally planning the all-out wedding, we had opted for our local city park, which is absolutely gorgeous. When starting to plan the smaller wedding, we decided to go for a destination feel. Many beaches or hotels will allow you to have your ceremony and reception on the beach for free. This is an awesome alternative to renting a hall or hotel.

When using your own location, be budget conscious.

Starting off, How to plan a wedding for pratically free.

Everyone knows that weddings are expensive!

But there are definite ways to slash costs, you just have to be smart and use the internet as a tool!

First off, everyone knows that planning a wedding can get expensive. And it's true- the more guests you pile on, the bigger the expense. Can't bare to slash your guests list? For a while, neither could I. Luckily, there are ways to plan a wedding with a bigger guest list. You just have to be smart. And have A LOT of patience!

Best place to start: I never created a wedding budget breakdown like all of those sites recommend. Instead, I came up with a total price that I would like to spend and went and tackled the most important obstacles first- the site, the dress, the cake, and the food/beverages. This is where you will spend your most money. As I find pieces for the wedding, I check that they are low priced and mark them down in my notebook. I keep constant total on the money I have spent and subtract it from my total available. One thing my Fiance' and I are very serious about is NOT going into debt for our special day, we would much rather do that buying a house! Haha.

In this blog, I will discuss my wedding journey and hopefully give you pointers and ideas for planning your special journey too! There are many ways to make a wedding affordable, you just have to know where to look!

About Me:
I am a 22 year old college student, bride-to-be. My Fiance' and I have been together for 8 years and we will marry on our 9 year anniversary, this year! We have lived together for 4 years and last year on our anniversary vacation decided to tie the knot! We are both in school and with the current economy are pretty much BROKE, and since no one is helping us- we are paying for our ceremony ourselves. We both started out wanting the big wedding with the ice sculptures and a dove release and 200 guests. That was not in the cards for us. When telling our parents of our plans, his mom freaked out because she doesn't want me in her family, and my parents freaked out because Im still their "baby". With things so crazy, we decided to elope with our original bridal party to the beach and haven't told anyone of our plans. We don't plan to tell them when we get back either. So this is our story. I hope you can use my journey to your advantage!
